We’re looking for a Chemical Manufacturing Specialist, well versed in Lab, SHE/ Quality systems and compliance. Hours: Mon – Thur 8.00 – 16.45, Fri 8.00 – 14.00 | Comprehensive salary plus rewards and benefits package
As a Process Development Chemist, you’ll be responsible for monitoring and evaluating NPI and plant processing data, identifying areas requiring process improvements to reduce cycle times, reduce waste, and realise cost reduction opportunities. You’ll also plan and carry out laboratory work to support both R&D and plant manufacturing, all while meeting quality, cost, operability, and productivity targets.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Determine where efficiencies can be gained and waste removed within current processes and infrastructure, to optimise company processes
- Collate and analyse data ensuring any change in trends are assessed and reported to team leaders
- Support the transfer of parts and processes into mainstream production
- Respond to processing issues beyond the immediate control of the production teams to help provide solutions
- Continually research, review and recommend new opportunities to improve operational processes and capacity to improve business operating profit
- Carry out scheduled sampling and analysis to determine and complete the necessary additions in support of the manufacturing process
- Support the SHE manager and SHE initiatives, in the assessment of all new chemistry product introduction
- Define and deliver appropriate training and technical support to staff, prior to and during trial manufacture, to ensure processes are established safely and effectively
- Research and recommend new lab technologies that enable increased efficiencies
- Manage the sampling process of the effluent treatment plant ensuring compliance is maintained
- Introduce new processes in a smooth and seamless way by writing technical manuals and work instructions, planning and delivering training for employees in the field of production processes
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of chemical related manufacturing processes
- Experience in FMEA and chemical reactivity assessment
- In depth knowledge of Lab, SHE/ Quality systems and compliance
- Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- Maths & English GCSE ‘A’ or above
- Proven track record of solving problems
Desirable
- Materials Science (possibly metallurgical knowledge)
- Knowledge of Photo Chemical Machining process technology and/or photolithographic processes
- Proven skills in delivering improvements using Lean/Six Sigma methods
- Project Management Qualification
- 2+years’ experience in R&D
- Knowledge of and experience in project work
