A leading global manufacturer of world class machining equipment are looking for a Senior Buyer to join their team in Derby.

The purpose of the position is to liaise between business and suppliers ensuring continuous supply chain support. You will support Buyers and Junior Buyers and assist with the management of the sourcing process.

Key Responsibilities:

– Report into the Purchasing Manager
  • Act as senior liaison point between production facilities and suppliers, be a point of escalation to support other members of the Procurement team.
  • Help with the sourcing process by identifying, selecting, and negotiating with suppliers.
  • Identify risks and opportunities in the sourcing process for both production and non-production spend,
  • Mitigate identified risks and move towards opportunities that adopt innovative solutions.
  • Work closely with the plant operations team verifying inventory levels and prepare production/delivery schedule to meet customer demands
  • Place necessary purchase orders to suppliers using the ERP system
  • Work with supplier base to keep them informed of near and future requirements, advise supplier of irregularities or unusual demand.
  • Track delivery & quality performance of the suppliers using supplier score cards and drive improvements to meet KPI targets.
  • For matters beyond your control, perform necessary escalations and co-ordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure issues are resolved.
  • Ensure business processes are executed according to the set procedures and standard workflow.
  • Always represent the Company in a professional manner, both internally and externally. Be an ambassador for the businesses ensure that Health & Safety always comes first
  • Local / regional business travel may be required in this role (up to 25%)

Experience & Characteristics: 

  • Demonstrable experience of purchasing experience preferably with manufacturing related companies.
  • Graduate in Logistics/Supply Chain/ Manufacturing or equivalent.
  • Experience and working knowledge of processes involved in planning, purchasing and inventory management systems like lean management, VMI, Min-Max, Kanban, Pull systems.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering materials and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Able to understand and able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience using Oracle or other ERP system daily
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact in a cross functional environment with various departments
  • Resilient, able to work under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to contribute to all facets of project life cycles with the initial focus on procurement / manufacturing / supply chain / quality processes but responsibilities will change as business needs evolve
