Service Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Service Engineer to join one of the world’s leading medical gas pipeline turn key providers.

As a Service Engineer, you’ll take responsibility for delivering a professional and prompt service to all Medical Gas Solutions customers, working on all types and all manufacturers Medical Gas equipment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Working as part of a regional service team, although at times may also be required to work outside the area
  • Provide 24/7 emergency call cover as part of a rota
  • Complete scheduled Planned Preventive Maintenance in a specified time at hospital sites where contracts are held
  • Liaise with the service office and customer to plan daily and weekly visit schedules
  • Working unsupervised, using own initiative to carry out laid down tasks
  • Identification of additional works such as manufacturers recommendations, report writing
  • Identification of additional works such as manifold and plant installations, completing short form tenders (quotations)
  • Control of stock and administration, timesheets, parts order forms, quotations, expenses etc.
  • Commissioning of new systems as required
  • Be aware of, and apply, Health and Safety regulations during their daily tasks
  • Maintain test instruments, to ensure they remain in good condition
  • Apply good standards of engineering practice at all times
  • Attend training to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
  • Responsible for a company vehicle ensuring service dates are adhered to as well as keeping the car in a road worthy state

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Time served apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with City & Guilds qualification, minimum Parts 1 & 2
  • A sound knowledge of compressors and vacuum pumps, preferably with field service experience
  • Self-driven and a clear focus on high quality
  • Competent and confident; Reliable, tolerant, and determined
  • Empathetic communicator, able to see things from the other person’s point of view
  • Ability to get on with others and be a team player
  • Un-phased working in a hospital environment, as you’ll be exposed to things some may find distressing, blood, poorly children etc.
  • Ability to reason logically and to recognise assumptions to evaluate options and reach sound decisions
  • Ability to maintain clear focus on customer satisfaction; take action when needed to meet the expectations of the customer
  • Able to maintain organisation, ethical and social values in all business activities

Desirable 

  • ONC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Experience of working within a hospital environment
  • A sound knowledge of electrical/pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge of medical gas systems or the pressure directive
  • Installation of pipework and machinery
